Just think of all the famous attractions in London. Four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret’s Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory, Greenwich marks the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT). Also, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. London is home to numerous museums including the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library and West End theaters. The London Underground (“the Tube”) is the oldest underground railway network in the world. Not mentioned above are the Regents Canal (misnamed on the map below), Camden Lock & Camden Market. On this one-day trip in September, 2016 my cousin, Shirley, took me for a tour of the canal through Camden Town. We also visited her mum, Doris Wicker, in a Kings Cross neighbourhood flat where she has resided since 1957. My relationship to Shirley & Doris: my paternal grandmother and Doris’ mother are sisters — my dad was born in London. The featured picture above is a famous pub in Camden Town. I couldn’t locate a good pic in my collection of the London Eye or Parliament but if you want to contribute one, I’d be chuffed.
