Someone said when you travel you meet really nice people to whom you only remember saying goodbye. You know you will never see them again but within a few minutes you have developed a friendship.
Some of them you will always remember:
1. The guy who picked me & Clarence & Ellen up while were were hitch hiking near Sitges, Spain. He took us to the fishing dock, bought a kilo of sardines, built a fire on the beach and cooked them up — a very memorable meal. I don’t know the guys name.
2. Landed in Gander, Newfoundland from a flight from Prestwick, Scotland without a dollar to my name. Hitch hiked across the island to Port Au Basque and tried to figure out how to pay for the ferry ride to Sydney, NS. A couple coming off the ferry chatted and gave me enough cash to get back home: 2300 km west. No pay back required.
3. Hitch hiking through Southern France late at night and spotted a huge pile of hay. Pulled out the sleeping bag and passed out on that pile. The following morning the farmer woke me up and invited me to breakfast at the farmhouse.
4. Hitch hiking from Grenoble south towards Spain. A VW camper with British Columbia plates picked me up and dropped me off at sunset in Carcassonne just before the lights were turned onto the fortress walls. Incredible.
